The Isuzu D-Max is one of Australia's most popular utes, known for its reliability and cost-effectiveness. However, selecting the correct turbocharger for the 4JJ1 engine can be confusing. This is because not all 4JJ1 engines use the same turbo—there are 3 different options in total, varying based on factors such as model year and specifications.
1. VIEZ Turbo - for early model D-Max 4JJ1 120Kws 2008-2012
This is an early model, identifiable by its kilowatt output and the size of the actuator. The turbocharger on this model features a larger actuator compared to the later versions.
2. VIGM Turbo- for D-Max 4JJ1 130Kws 2012-2016
This turbo is specifically designed for the 4JJ1 with 130 kW. It can be distinguished by its smaller actuator compared to the early model.
3. 49477-06200 for D-Max 4JJ1 2016-
As shown in the photo, this turbo features a V-band connection to the dump pipe, which sets it apart from earlier models. Additionally, the compressor housing has a different shape.
For these three turbo models, you can generally identify them based on the production year. However, during the changeover years, the easiest way to confirm is by inspecting the turbo directly in the engine bay. If you're still unsure, feel free to send us some photos of your turbo, and we’ll be happy to assist you.
