1. My 4M40 is an older engine. Is it safe to upgrade to Stage 1 or Stage 1 Plus?
Yes, it is very safe if handled correctly. The 4M40 is a "workhorse" engine. Our Stage 1 only increases boost from 10 PSI to a mild 12 PSI. Stage 1 Plus goes to 16 PSI, but we’ve included a Reinforced Thrust Bearing to handle that extra load safely, making it a perfect reliability upgrade for older blocks.
2. Why should I choose a Billet wheel design if I’m only running 12 PSI on Stage 1?
It’s not just about the pressure; it’s about response. Even at low boost, our Performance Design MFS Billet wheel is much lighter than the heavy factory cast wheel. It allows the turbo to reach 12 PSI much faster, giving you instant throttle response and eliminating off-the-line lag.
3. I have a Delica / Pajero and I do heavy towing. Which stage is best for me?
For heavy towing, we highly recommend the Stage 1 Plus. The 2mm larger Billet wheel and upgraded bearing system provide the extra "grunt" needed for long highway hills and towing, all while maintaining excellent daily reliability at 16 PSI.
4. Does the Stage 2 (18 PSI) require internal engine modifications?
While our Stage 2 is over-engineered to safely deliver 18 PSI, we recommend ensuring your 4M40 engine is in good health. At 18 PSI, you are maximizing the power of this 2.8L block, so a professional tune is highly recommended to ensure the air-to-fuel ratio remains safe.
5. Will this turbo fit my specific Pajero or Delica model?
Since Mitsubishi utilized several different turbocharger variations for the 4M40 engine, we strongly recommend checking the part number on your original turbo or sending us your VIN number for verification before ordering to ensure 100% compatibility.
6. What is the benefit of the "Larger Impeller Wheel" on Stage 1 Plus and Stage 2?
Size matters for airflow volume. The 2mm larger wheel (Stage 1 Plus) and 4mm larger wheel (Stage 2) allow the turbo to push a higher volume of air per revolution. This creates more torque and power, allowing your 4M40 to breathe much easier at highway speeds.
7. Is a gasket kit included with the purchase?
Yes, this turbo comes with a free set of gaskets as photo shows. All necessary gaskets and seals for a professional installation are included in the box.
8. How does this upgrade affect my Exhaust Gas Temperatures (EGTs)?
Our high-efficiency Billet wheels actually help lower your EGTs. By improving the induction efficiency, you get a more complete combustion. Cooler running means a longer-lasting engine and turbocharger, which is critical for the 4M40 head.
9. Are these turbos VSR Balanced in Australia?
